Come one, come all to the Second Annual AdFed Membership Drive!
We’ll gather on Tuesday, August 31 at Taco Boy downtown for stellar company, refreshing libations, and a special bonus for renewing and new members: your drinks are on us. From 5:30 to 7:30, anyone who hands us cold hard cash (or check, or a credit card) will receive a wristband, our sincere thanks, and plenty of tasty cocktails. We’ll be sharing all the inside scoop on our new location, the Fall programs, and very cool special projects. (If you’d like to be involved but can’t join that night, talk to one of our board members about volunteer opportunities within the group.)

Non-profit organizations provide some of the most crucial services in our community. However, many are saddled with low marketing budgets and a constant struggle to make their presence known in the already crowded service landscape.
For this reason, AAF Charleston, as part of our dedication to public service, will provide a full advertising campaign to a chosen non-profit organization for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. The campaign will be designed specifically for the chosen non-profit, utilizing talent from across the marketing and advertising industry.

Submission Guidelines
• Organization must provide proof of 501(c)(3) status
• Organization should have a limited (or no) advertising budget
• Organization should be prepared to budget for production costs of the campaign
• Organization should be non-commercial, non-denominational, and non-partisan in relation to politics and advocacy
Services which may be included in the campaign:
• advertising in traditional media (print, broadcast, outdoor, direct mail, online, etc.)
• web design
• social media
• logo and identity package
• print collateral
• guerilla/ambient advertising

Adams Outdoor Advertising is hiring for an entry-level graphic designer for our Charleston, SC office. Potential candidates should have 0-3 years of experience in an advertising or design position and a well-formed opinion on what makes a great ad.
Adams Outdoor Advertising is the 5th largest provider of billboard advertising in the country. We’re a sales organization with a focus on creating great ads. After all, our product is only as good as the ad that’s posted on it. We’re not merely order-takers. We strive to delve deep into our clients’ needs and develop effective media strategies that will grow their business.
As the graphic designer, you will take direction from and collaborate with the art director on a variety of projects. A lot of the work might be production-style work such as “exit now” for a hotel on I-95. When we’re done knocking that stuff out, we’ll sink our teeth into incredible projects like spectacular 3D sculpturesque designs for McDonald’s. (Did you see the board that was transformed into a giant box of french fries? We did that.) But the creative potential of each project is only limited by the effort we want to give to it.

The Charleston Food + Wine Festival is seeking a full time designer to develop print and web projects.
Graphic Designer
Scope of Work: Design and develop the Charleston Wine + Food Festival’s graphic projects (before, during, and after) and implement web site content with leadership and direction provided by the Marketing + Media Manager, as well as the Executive Director.
Supervised By: Marketing + Media Manager
Hours: 40+ hours per week
Compensation: $35,000-$40,000 per year with benefits
Experience + Knowledge Necessary: A minimum of three years graphic design experience required on Macintosh platform. Should have an in-depth working knowledge of Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat Professional, logo design, web site design/hosting, variable data printing, print ad/collateral design, and online ad design. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and computer programming are necessary. Excellent design style, visualization and attention to detail, interpersonal communication, time management, organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment are necessary. Previous event planning knowledge is a plus.
Specific Details:
- Design and produce all Festival marketing materials, including, but not limited to; rack cards, postcards, ticket brochures, billboards, invitations and signage. Design all Festival print and online advertisements.
- Manage, update and edit content on the back-end of the Festival web site including, logo and image redesign and uploading, management of personality bios, uploading and updating event copy and images, banner ads, etc.
- Create an overall design “look” for each year of the Festival that will be implemented throughout the year in all marketing materials.
- Assist with any misc. design efforts including the official program, PowerPoint presentations, badge design, button/lapel pin design, etc.
- May need to design the front-end of the Festival web site. This includes working closely with the programmer to mock-up pages and layout, selection of fonts and graphics, etc…
- Intern Oversight: If applicable manage a graphic design intern.

After a fantastic local show and rockin’ awards party, we are thrilled to hear that 17 of our local entries won gold or silver awards at the District competition, including the student and professional Best of Show ADDYs. Congratulations to the College of Charleston, KDP Marketing, Rawle Murdy Associates, SLANT Media, and Trident Tech students Jennifer Hitchcock, Jeremy Darby, Kristina Evans, Laurie Ladd, Philip Micheal McKnight, and Summer Speaks on their wins.
This work is now eligible to compete at the national level against entrants from around the country. Winners will be announced at the national awards show held June 12, 2010.

The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Annually, AAF member clubs, of which the Advertising Federation of Charleston is a member, bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community.
For many local clubs, awarding the AAF Silver Medal enhances the image of advertising by recognizing a locally well-known person for their advertising and community involvement.
Silver Medal Award Criteria
An award jury of former Advertising Federation of Charleston Past Presidents selects the recipient of the Silver Medal Award. Judges use the following criteria when making their selections:
Contribution to His/Her Company – The recipient must have achieved success in one of
the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertiser, media or advertising service
Creative Ability – The recipient must have shown a consistent, high degree of original thinking in their field.
Contributions to the General Advancement of Advertising – The recipient must have
worked to increase the stature and raise the standards of the advertising profession.
Contributions to the Community – The recipient should be someone who has been active in civic, religious, or other groups dedicated to human or social welfare.
