If you weren’t at the American last Thursday night, you missed a treat. Not only would you have gotten to shake the hands of our ‘09 – ‘10 board (except for our web god, but his stand-in would have been delighted to meet you), you would have been educated, inspired, and largely entertained by Tim and Ethan from Mad Monkey in Columbia, SC. Check out their website at gomadmonkey.com for a taste of what you missed – it will be well worth your time. In addition to clips of great work, you’ll see animated monkeys and read the tale of Captain Hineypants and the Attack of the Talking Tiolets. Awe-some.
In more local news, the first AdfedU luncheon is scheduled for early October – pencil it in!
AND, Round Two of our Improved and Even More Exciting Logo Competition will begin soon; keep your eyes peeled for details.

Update on the Logo Competition
Ten brave souls submitted entries for our new look as AAF-Charleston. From safe and solid to whimsical and aquatic, these entries covered the spectrum. Check them out at adfedcharleston.com if you haven’t already and share your thoughts with us.
We’ve discussed and debated for the last several days, and while we have our favorites, we have not reached a consensus on which one suits us best.
Hmmmmmmm.
This indicates that perhaps we need to offer some specific details on who we are, what we do, and what our new logo should accomplish. Yes, this would have been helpful information when we started this — live and learn!
In that vein, we will not be revealing a winner at our meeting tonight. However, we will be putting together a brief detailing all of the above, sharing it with you, and opening up a second round of competition. Watch your Inbox and our website for details in the next few weeks.
Special thanks to everyone who submitted an entry in round 1 — we hope you’ll stay with us and submit in round 2.

Mad Monkey is a production boutique that specializes in telling visual stories – many of which are very, very funny. If our client’s message is destined for the screen we can create and produce it. This means everything from broadcast commercials, movie trailers, and corporate brand movies to animation, motion graphics and interactive design and content. Based in Columbia, SC, Mad Monkey believes that every client has a story worth telling. Our passion is making these stories relevant to our client’s prospects.

Due to multiple requests received today, we are extending the deadline for our logo contest to Monday, September 14 at 10:00 AM. Procrastinators, get thee in gear!
To those of you who got your entry in on time, many thanks. Please feel free to use these extra days to your advantage and update your submission if you so desire. Just be sure to note that your new file is an updated version when you send it in.
And just to review, here’s the fine print:
- logo must include the words AAF – Charleston
- look can be entirely new, or include the current Adfed colors or icon (the head with flowers of genius sprouting from it).
- submit a pdf of your final design to info@adfedcharleston.com by the above deadline.
Good luck!

We’re so in love with the new Taco Boy downtown, that we decided to host our First Annual Membership Drive there on Tuesday, August 25. Come hang out with us from 5:30 to 7:30 that night for some cocktails and stellar company: if you pay your member dues that night, you’ll get a handy wrist band and can enjoy some libations on us, and if you aren’t sure you’re ready to make the leap to official member, you can give us $15 and in return, we’ll give you a wrist band to drink on our tab AND talk your ear off about how great we are (you’ll want to join before you leave). See our updated member packages.
There’s More!
We’ve decided to throw a bone to our friends at the national level and rename ourselves AAF-Charleston in accordance with their numerous, very polite requests. Since we’re getting this nifty new name, we’d like to give you a shot at updating our look as well. As such, we are hosting a logo contest beginning now and running thru September 8. No, it’s not much time, and offering your creative genius to us for free may not be your cup of tea. However, if you’re in a slow phase at work, or stuck in a quagmire of non-brilliance with whatever you’re working on now, this could be just what you need to fill the empty hours and get the creative juices flowing.
Here’s the fine print, if you’re so inclined to give some thought to our look:
- logo must include the words AAF – Charleston
- look can be entirely new, or include the current Adfed colors or icon (the fabulous head with flowers of genius sprouting from it).
- submit a pdf of your final design to info@adfedcharleston.com by 12 pm on Tuesday, September 8. We’ll post all on entries on the web and have a week of unbridled critique, competition and discussion.
- the winning design and designer will be revealed and generally treated like a rock star at our first evening program on Thursday, September 18.
And That’s It for Now!
We have some new and exciting plans to tell you about, but we’ll get to that soon. In the mean time, come join us for our member drive at Taco Boy on the 25th, apply your brain to designing a logo for us, and plan to join us over the next year for one of the best Adfed seasons yet.”
